A Day in Miami - Nov. 10, 2019

Image
Our first flight does not leave until after seven tonight so Linda had planned an activity for the day. But before we could go out and do her thing we had to eat breakfast. I can say that over the years we have had a few not so good breakfasts in hotels. This morning's was by far the worst we've ever had. I only took a picture of where the supposedly sweet things and breads/rolls were, however the selection for the hot foods and the island with the fruits vegetables and other cold items were similar in the fact that the quality of everything was rock-bottom. I did mention how bad our room was yesterday but I will this morning, since not only was the room bad the air-conditioning fan extremely noisy and even the trash can was not dumped. I'll just say that we will never be staying at the Sheraton Miami airport ever again and leave it at that. We joked at breakfast that we hoped our experience there didn't set the tone for the day. Were we ever wrong as it wasn...

Another Trip - Another Continent - Nov. 9, 2019

Image
Every year about this time we take an overseas trip and this year is no exception. Our bucket list gets smaller and smaller every year and this year we are going to cross off the biggest bucket on our list. Our last continent, Antarctica. As you can see from the picture Linda is going to be missing her backyard. She's planted onions and beets, both of which are up, and three tomato plants. She's even instructed a neighbor on when to come and put protective covering over the tomatoes in case of temperatures in the low 30's. I wasn't surprised to see the beginnings of a tear in her eye as she turned away from something she really loves. It is no wonder that she is such a special person. All packed up and ready to go. We're taking a bigger suitcase along this time because of the fact that after three weeks in cold weather we will be spending a week in Florida, so we will need close for each. The small suitcase is full of our cold weather close, and I do mean ...

Shopping day

Image
It was one of those days when we do a lot, but nothing really happens. Linda will no doubt cover all the little things that she enjoyed, in which case I will highlight a couple and be done with that. Take shopping for example. She made her list and checked it twice, making sure what we'd bought didn't depend on a roll of the dice. There were potatoes galore, with enough peeling to make her hands sore. To the park potluck we are going, signed up for potatoes, both mashed and sweet, the height of the piles to be measured in feet. White today, sweet tomorrow, so many I thought there were pans she'd have to borrow. T'was the day before Thanksgiving, when what to our wondering eyes should appear, but a one gallon aquarium, bright shiny and clear. Swept up in a flash, it didn't take the last of our cash, still up near the top of his new house, Red Rob leaped with joy and a splash. Life is what we make it, some days we work a bit, and on others it takes some w...

Lazy day

No photos, but sure fun to watch. Sunday means all the weekenders are leaving and the 5th wheel several sites down that took the hour to get backed in the other night was making preparations to leave. They went on and on opening compartments and putting things into them, but finally it was time to back the truck up and hitch up to the fifth wheel. I counted nine times he tried to get aimed right, with multiple exits from the truck and a number of times adjusting the height of the 5th wheel before contact was made. That wasn't the best part however, as there was more action to follow. Once hooked up, he pulled out of the site in one shot, as opposed to the hour it had taken him to back into it, and we thought we had seen the last of him, but how wrong we were. We have all had the experience of that first time at the dump station, but how many of us have taken 55 minutes to complete the task? Ladies and gentlemen, I think we have a new winner in the best imitation of "RV, Th...
