Around the World in 128 Days -Cape Verde on a Cooking Excursion

Travel Day 121 - May 3, 2024 - 13,438 Steps

The harbor at Mindelo, Cape Verde.

Fishing boat heading out.

And shortly after a fishing boats comes in.

It is a beautiful place of blue water and volcanic mountains.

Zuiderdam and friends.

Sidewalk vegetable vendor.

Some of what will be going into the cachupa we will be preparing and eating, which is the the national dish of Cape Verde.

One of the meats that go into it is pork.

Smiling chef.

That's how it's done.

Part of the restaurant kitchen where we were "peeling potatoes."

Once everything was peeled we were off to visit some of the local markets while the restaurant chef finished preparing the dish and started it cooking.

Just how dull was that knife?

Walking to the fish market saw the sidewalk vendors out in force.

The fish market had colorful fresh fish.

And not so colorful dried fish.

And there were even photogenic fish photographers.

Color of a different sort.

The art center.

Seeing is believing.

Fruit and vegetable market.

Not nearly as noisy as markets in other countries.

Just like back home, but likely a lot riper and fresher.

They make it look so easy!

There's a story here and per our guide it's the street of the fish festival.

The buildings of the Portuguese past slowly decays.

The local beer.

Part of the chachupa meal.

Flan for desert.

And ice cream.

Bob art photo.

Pondering how they open and close the fiberglass roof section to keep rain water from going around or under the edges when it is closed. Never did figure it out. Another of those mysteries of the universe.

Beautiful sandy beaches and blue water.

What we won't see in less than two weeks.

Almost home.

Not the easiest read, but worthwhile.
