Limoges Porcelain

Image
My wife is very special, even though she may be be bit odd at times, this morning being one of those times. There we were, eating a proper French breakfast of sliced baguettes, sliced bread, chocolate croissants, apple croissant, petite croissant, and toasted petite bread.  Meanwhile Linda was turning the saucer over and taking photos of the marks on the bottom. In addition to our trip to Oradour-Sur Glane yesterday, in the late  afternoon we had also visited the Royal Limoges porcelain factory. Then, this morning, when she turned over one of the plates on the table, as you can see, it had the Royal Limoges  symbol on it. I’d say that is proof positive that we are staying a first class hotel if they use Royal Limoges china to serve breakfast on. Today we spent the morning in the porcelain museum,  with Linda liking this exhibit the best. The human body with all the different parts that have been replaced with porcelain parts. Hips, knees, eyeballs and more, all...

Another Day in Tours

Image
“ When you travel, remember that a foreign country is not designed to make you comfortable. It is designed to make its own people comfortable .” – Clifton Fadiman While our original plans had been to spend one of our days in Tours taking a day trip to Amboise, we decided, with some vigorous input from Linda, that having spent a brief time in Amboise during our Rick Steves Tour, and knowing that there is a whole lot of up and down to visiting it, we would just spend our time in the very flat city of Tours. As you can see, just because we weren’t going to be doing any walking up and down hills today, Linda still needed a good meal to get her going. A very tasty sweet bread slathered with Nutella was all she needed. Besides that huge cup of coffee that is. There was so much lips smacking going on that I had a hard time keeping from laughing. And I was told that, yes it was that good, but it was all hers. This was our daily: what is it? Since we were in the courtyard of a wine mus...

Touring Tours

“Tourists don’t know where they’ve been, travelers don’t know where they’re going.” – Paul Theroux This is the breakfast bar at our hotel. This is the coffee machine. This Linda’s cafĂ© au lait. I don’t have photo of the big, beautiful smile that Linda had, but it sure was there. Linda was one very happy girl. So much so that she went back again and came to the table with an expresso. I had the good sense to indicate we needed to get started with our morning project or I have to believe she would have been back again making something else. Then we would have spent half the morning searching for toilettes during our travels around Tours. This one is just for Linda. She was intrigued by this car parked directly under our window. I could hear her muttering under her breathe about how it was all glass. Since she had to lean out the window to take this photo, I’ll do her the honor of posting it. I was more fascinated by the rooftop behind it that was covered in grass. I guess th...
