Travel Day 64 - March 7, 2024 - 7,660 Steps
As morning broke the first glimpses of Shanghai appeared.
The view was ships as far as the eye could see.
Linda says they look like a line of ants moving past our cabin.
The World Stage area was also jammed with people awaiting their turn to depart on their excursion.
Off the ship this was one of the first sites we saw.
On the bus and on the road, towering apartment blocks filled the skyline.
Look closely and the days laundry can be seen.
See what I mean.
Today was a food tour of the city featuring Shanghai specialties.
The items we ate and the menu that explains what they were. Now you know as much as we do about what we had to eat.
Two things here. The name of the vehicle company is BYD and within the next 5 to 7 years it will be the best selling vehicles in the USA. All their cars are either hybrid or or 100% electric and their prices will be far less than any US manufacturer, The green tag means it is either a hybrid or all electric vehicle in China and the cost to license it is a fraction of the cost of an a gas powered vehicle. We are talking $10,000 or more less than the license plate cost of a gas vehicle in China. That is why China will totally dominate the world eclectic vehicle market in a few years.
Never see this along streets in the US.
With temperatures down near freezing there are ways to stay warm when riding a scooter.
Fresh vegetable market. Almost everything comes form somewhere in China, the world's second largest country.
Fresh fish in the market.
Live Bullfrogs are much in demand.
Something you never see at you local Walmart, pig brains. But then the people that shop at at Walmart aren't intelligent enough to know that pig brains are are one of the world's greatest foods.
Jellied jelly fish another fantastic food.
River eels.
They like their seafood really fresh.
You want eggs, the market has any kind of egg you can want.
Community bicycles. Ten cents per 30 minutes of riding. When you have a government that cares about the people, the people care about the government and respect it unlike in our country.
A subway station means the the street will be what is called a "food street".
The green comes from grass. The taste and flavor is out of this world..
Yes there are masses of people but there is respect for each individual.
All around the world we see this same thing,
Scooters galore. We asked Yo-Yo our guide about the scooters and she said they cost about $200 each.
Sometimes the delivery people just have to rest.
Small food shops everywhere.
Spicy lamb skewers from an ethnic restaurant. We learned there are more than 50 ethnic groups in China, but each is respected and supported by the government. Which is far more than we can say about our country and all the bigots we have.
Open air meat market.
Last stop on the food tour, octuple chocolate brownie and some fancy coffee for Linda. I must confess we both agreed that we may never before have had a brownie so rich in chocolate..
The TV tower is something visitors are supposed tom photograph, so I did.
Tall buildings are everywhere in this city of 28 million people.
It's on the left side and is called the "smokestack". It's the second tallest building in the world and Linda was lucky to take a photo of it.
