Around the World in128 Days - Phu my, Vietnam Port for Saigon

Travel Day 78 - March 21, 2024 - 6,231 Steps

Riverside mooring at Phu my.

After doing a little research I think it is a hoover fly since it only has two wings.

Off on another excursion

Getting a ride if you are traveling yourself would have been no problem with this conglomeration of vehicles waiting outside the port gates.

We were caught in a traffic jam when I saw this in the cab of a semi truck that was beside us. The people in the south part of Vietnam don't have much use for the communist government.

Scooter and motorbike lane beside the highway.

When the traffic light changes the stampede is on.

Story of many of my photographs. You can just see the helicopter pad sticking out from the building.

Visiting the major market near the cooking school.

A carefully arranged tray of crabs.

The video below shows her at work .

No part of the animal goes to waste. I wonder if she is called an "innards vendor."

Coffees better after having passed through the civet.

You want it, they have it.

They ride their motorbikes everywhere including inside the market.

Street vendor

Way too many people for it to be any kind of fun experience.

Linda all decked out as a junior chef.

Nothing like a warm beer to bring a smile to a couple of cooking student's faces.

Part of the ingredients to prepare our three dishes. a a salad and sauce, a pork rib to be grilled and spring rolls

I may have rolled it perfectly but it still was nowhere near as tasty as ones we made in Shanghai. In fact of the five cooking excursions we have been during the cruise this was the worst one by far and Food and Wine Magazine should be ashamed to be part of it.

And a dessert drink to end the meal.

Just like on our trip to Vietnam 7 years ago, the best place to wash, rinse and dry the restaurant dishes is on the sidewalk.

Now you know why the food tastes so good.

Not art, but embroidery.

I along with a few others elected to stay on the bus when most folks went on the unscheduled embroidery shopping stop. The bus driver could not park at the embroidery location so he drove around the area. I was happy to see we were going by the famous former Presidential Palace and he even stopped here for a while before going on.

The building, where for several nights, we ascended high up and enjoyed drinks and the nightly light show last time we were in Saigon.

Buildings are going up everywhere in Saigon along with expressways being constructed, so here is another load of steel that will head up the road toward Saigon.

As always when leaving a port, there was a sail-away party tonight.
