Travel Day 65 - March 8, 2024 - 9,586 Steps

So much for the rumors about not be able to post or use google or facebook, etc.. at least here in Shanghai. Tomorrow is a sea day as we head north to Dalian and then Beijing.

The ships never stop moving on the Yangtze.

Sevens lanes of cars and a separate one for scooters.

Freeways everywhere.

And highrise apartment buildings.

But there are also small patches of older buildings, waiting to either be turned into museums or torn down to make way for more high rises at the governments discretion.

Flowers adding beauty and no litter. Our guide said the government was concerned about how China would look during the Olympic games that were held here some years ago, so embarked on an educational program to convince people that litter was bad. She said it took a few years but now no one litters and the the city is mush nicer because of it.

Have to love the variety of architecture that makes the building appear out of the ordinary.

Today's first stop was the Art Museum.

Much of the art is in the form of scrolls.

Ming dynasty painting from the 1400's.

This one dates from 1316. It's three dimensional and with perspective. It's impossible to imagine how much further civilization would now be advanced if the Catholic Church had never existed in the west.

Looking down from above.

Clothing of some of the different ethnic groups of China.

Linda posed an excellent question about these shoes. Why are there designs on the soles?

Masks had meanings.

Bed

Wash stand

There never were lions in China, yet the lion is one of their ancient symbols.

RV spied by Linda.

Old town to the right.

What's the first thing we see when we are actually in Old Town?

Narrow streets.

The old style Chinese architecture.

Bonsai tree in winter.

The Chinese dragon is different than the western dragon.

Tranquil setting in a Chinese garden.

Beauty is everywhere in the garden.

The buds and flowers of spring abound.

The number four rock in all of China.

Dragon headed turtle?

Looking at the line for this place, they must taste as good as they look.

Two views of the second tallest building in the world.

How one of those old buildings was constructed.

You want it, he has it.

It tasted as good as it looks.
