Around the World in 128 days - Naha, Okinawa, Japan

Travel Day 52 - February 24, 2024 - 20,240 Steps

Today and tomorrow we will be visiting Naha, Okinawa, Japan.

The ever present tug was standing by as we dock this morning.

A little musical entertainment was provided.

Max, our for the excursion today.

He was very well prepared.

You know you are in Japan when....

Many signs are in both Japanese and English.

Saturday morning landscape maintenance.

One has his mouth to prevent the bad luck from coming in. The other has his mouth closed holding the good luck in.

Max told the convivence store open their restroom to tourists.

Almost every word is in English The Japanese is in the white strip at the bottom.

Underground bus parking at the castle, something I've never seen in the US.

They make it easy to pay.

The first gate to the castle.

The castle was very popular with many Japanese families visiting.

I haven't a clue as to what it means.

The second gate which allows entry into the main castle area.

Up the castle steps.

The castle was reconstructed after it was totally and I do mean totally destroyed during the Battle of Okinawa in WWII.

The Japanese thought we would bomb the castle since it was such an important culture landmark. Because of that they had they had their military headquarters there. They were badly mistaken. The same set of steps and gate after the battle, The castle was obliterated.

Another shot of the reconstructed steps. Everything about the castle is reconstructed.

What can i say, I like these two types of statues.

Lots of walking today.

Today's bird image, another crow.

View of a portion of the city.

We both bowed thank you to him after I took the photo.

Have I mentioned I really like these creatures.

Next came a visit to a garden.

House where the Chinese Emperor stayed when he visited many, centuries ago,

You guess is as good as Linda's since she toured the house and took this photo of what, she doesn't know.

No shoes allowed in the house.

Almost picture perfect.

Koi pond with Koi.

Traditional Okinawan three stringed instrument.

Max playing and singing.

A Toyota Prius looking just like what we have in the States.

The park by backing in. And I have to say they are very good at backing.

I think it was an ad.

Naha is a very modern city.

These things are everywhere. Think we just might end up with a pair ourselves.

A Linda photo.

A Bob photo of a very happy Linda. And she said it tasted just as good as it looked.

Couldn't believe my luck in seeing this Japanese Coast Guard vessel coming into the harbor. Another photo for Chris and Jake, along with the video clip below.
