Around the World in 128 Days - Halfway to Hawaii - Ask the Captain (but you may not like the answer)

   Travel Day 32 - February 3, 2024 - 20,788 Steps

There is more to this photo than just Kimberly interviewing the ship's media manager Desiree and printer Edwin. Linda paid very close attention to what Desiree said her position entailed, which was overseeing the printed, TV and internet media aboard ship, except what was controlled or dictated by shoreside. (I take it shoreside means corporate.) One of Desiree's tasks it to check all of the aforementioned media for errors. Stayed over the next several days as Linda begins checking the media for errors.

Today' look at the ocean. The ship is gently rocking and rolling, but worse weather is in the future.

Someone who has a desire in life to go to sea rises to the rank of Captain for good reason. This interview of our captain, Frank van der Hoeven, showed why he is a captain.

The best way to explain it was late in the time period when questions were being posed by the audience members, a lady asked  her question with the comment that she was late getting here and the question may already have been asked. The question was had Madagascar been considered as a stopover since the cruise had been rerouted from a Suez Canal passage to going around Africa. His answer was just one word, no. Later as we would run across snippets of conversation about that incident, all we heard was how people loved his answer. And yes, there had been quite extensive comments by the captain earlier about what went into selecting the new route. If the question was so important to her, why hadn't she arrived to the session on time.

It was a laugh fest when the captain's wife joined him on stage. In case you're wondering, the most senior officers can have their wives accompany them on the cruises.

Elephant night.

Another view.

A glorious orange sky tonight.
