Around the world in 128 Days - Durban, South Africa - Zulus, Crocs and a Helicopter

Travel Day 103 - April 15, 2024 - 8,501 Steps

This is just a quick post of what we did today. Tomorrow I hope to post some of the 40 plus videos we took today of all that we experienced as well as a few more photos to complete the day's happenings.

Our first view of Durban did not leave a good feeling.

South Africa is a mere shell of what it once was.

Market area in Durban.

Our destination for today's excursion.

Zulu dancers.

Zulu drummeres.

It was a great performace that told the story of two young people who fell in love and were married through song and dance.

Then there were the crocodiles.

Luckily they were all behind walls and fences.

Oh, but Crocy, what big teeth you have.

He was called Ramses. 101 years old, and weighing somewhere between 500 and 650 kilo's with a length of over 5 meters there was no doubt he was a monster crocodile.

A face only a mother could love?

Then there were the snakes.

A Black Mamba, a snake you really never want to meet.

The economy and the country itself is teetering on the edge, with corruption everywhere.

It's sad because the country is so beautiful and has so much potential.

Visiting the bridge of the ship.

All it takes to have the ship go where it is supposed to go.

Do NOT press this button I was told at least three times by the First Officer when I asked him where the button to sound the horn was located, then hovered my finger over it.

The helicopter that lowered the pilot to the ship, then extracted him was just above our verandah.
