Scarborough, Tobago - January 7, 2024
Ship's position this morning.
The only meal I'll subject readers to today. Still not repeating any foods.
First time off the ship, first time in Tobago.
Linda had booked a shore excursion. The transportation was a 20 passenger bus.
There was no rain in the forecast, when in the tropics....
Intense, but brief.
Remains of an old British fort. The British, French and Spanish all had control of the island at one time or another. The British influence was lasting with right hand drive vehicles and English being the language.
Linda and her chickens.
Tropical greenery around the fort. Here the bus left without us, but caught a ride on smaller bus that was much better than the first one.
Goats seemed to be the animal of choice.
This was a monument we stopped at that commemorated the existence of a Latvian community that was here from the mid to late 1600's. Of course we did the cruise ship tourist thing and took photos.
A pretty little bay below the preceding monument.
Another of those must stop tourist attractions.
Beneath these walls are deposited the body of Mrs. Betty Stiven and her child. She was the beloved wife of Alex B Stiven. To the end of his days will deplore her death, which happened upon the 25th November 1783 in the 23rd year of her age. What was remarkable of her, she was a mother without knowing it, and a wife without letting her husband know it except by her kind indulgence to him.
For some reason a pole has been placed at the foot of the tombstone making it difficult to take a straight on photo.
Seen next to the tombstone entrance.
It was called a Folkloric performance and is a Holland America exclusive. We have seen quite a few of these types of performances over the years and this one was one of the better ones. The enthusiasm and sheer love of preforming was apparent in all the performers.
Love the blur as she twirls her costume around.
Dance clip
Steel Drum
All over the world we see these mazes of telephone wires.
Linda couldn't help but that this photo.
Another required tourist photo.
Back from shore leave, the cool cloth and lemon water was greatly appreciated.
