Around the World in 128 Days - Day 1 of 4 crossing the Atlantic
Travel Day 122 - May 4, 2024 - 16,725 Steps
A bit dark and gloomy this morning.
Linda found the sea conditions to her liking.
Kim's guest this morning was the ship's Staff Captain and he was great. Here he answers a question concerning who is selected to dock or undock the ship when in port.
Asked how many languages he speaks, it came to a total of eight, and by speaking, it meant he was fluent in them. As to why so many, he said his parents pushed him to learn as many as he could because it would open the whole world to him with the ability to work almost anywhere. He mentioned his parents spoke 4 languages between them and they moved from country to country as he was growing up due to their knowledge of those languages. His brother lives in Germany, his sister in Austria and his son is finishing up his engineering degree in Italy, but wants find work in the US. Oh, the Staff Capt. and his wife also live in Italy.
Nothing like a phone and cup of coffee to pass the time waiting for the cooking demonstration to begin.
It turned out to be the best cooking demonstration of the trip.
Discussing ceviche ingredients and why he adds soy sauce.
Ceviche is raw fish, treat it as such, other words handle with care.
What stock and rice to use with the above shrimp dish and selecting the best wine to accompany it.
The dish should not only taste great, it should also look great.
I've tried and tried to take a photo of a flying fish during the course of the trip. While not very good I finally managed to capture one in mid flight.
Star Wars day cake.
Interesting talk about how the astronauts eat on the international Space Station.
Zuiderdam Derby Day hat contestants.
The hats are ???, I'll just not say anything.
Easy to tell the pickled turnips .
Linda thought it might be a snail. I couldn't even guess what it was.
They were back by popular demand.
And they had come up with a different show.
Snippets from some of their songs.
