A Very Fresh Food Day

We have come to truly understand what Mark Twain was saying: “You will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.” With that in mind today found us on the Pennicott Tasmanian Seafood Seduction. A day trip by boat where all the seafood comes straight from the water to you. Today I’ll let the photos do most of the talking.

Sunrise, it was if Rich was saying have fun mom and dad.

The Little Penguin, our home for the day.

Fantastic scenery.

When oysters are this fresh, even Linda becomes an oyster lover.

I got the juice, Linda got the oyster. I had to check once or twice, but it really was Linda, not some figment of my imagination.

Sea urchin eggs.

Linda eating raw sea urchin eggs. If someone hadn’t elbowed her out of the way I believe she would have eaten all of them herself.

We had a wonderful time with this family from China. Kevin, holding 20 month old Carson, and his wife directly behind have lived in Melbourne for 8 years. His wife’s parents and two younger brothers were visiting from China. As always in our travels, just because one don’t speak the language doesn’t mean you can’t communicate.

Taking a turn at the wheel.

Tasmanian crayfish. Next time we are in Louisiana and they serve crawdads, we’ll whip out this photo and say, “That’s not a crayfish, THIS is a crayfish.’ Note how an oyster was never far from Linda.

King Island cheese and smoked salmon, with the best tasting bread we’ve ever experienced outside of Europe.

And of course there was abalone.

Photos simply can not do justice to what we experienced. It was exactly the kind of day we needed.

  1. What a fun, fine day! The photos made me drool! But I do draw the line at fresh oysters. Cooked on a barbie, then dipped in a butter/lemon/Worcestershire sauce/garlic/onion concoction...now THAT I can do!
