Oksfjord to Batsfjord –Tuesday 8 March 2016

DSC00800

I read somewhere that there was supposed to be a huge liquefied gas plant up here. Maybe this was it, maybe it wasn’t. Just another of those known unknowables Life presents us at times. Clueless Bob.

I do believe Ms. Healthy Eater went a little overboard in the health drink department this morning. I’d show my breakfast but as long time readers know, it would merely be fishy. Bob, the Wannabe Pickled Herring.

For the past several days now we have seen that round bright thing in the sky. One guess is as good as another. The current thinking is that it’s a Russian spy satellite.

The northern lights in the daytime. Definitely not as spectacular as the night time version. Delusional Bob.

DSC00813

Supposedly it is nuclear submarine taking part in a huge NATO military exercise. Like the gas plant and northern lights, I just post them, I don’t pretend to know what they are.

DSC00814

Island the ship passed by. Don’t ask me why she took this photo. Bob, the Know Nothing.

DSC00818

In this case I was able to determine why she took this photo.

DSC00817

Close-up of the previous photo. The first red building of the day is a two for one.

Following a sunbeam to a winter paradise.

Just to prove that I things other than fish on occasion. Onion soup, red cabbage, marinated sweet potatoes plus beets and barley. I know, it’s about as weird as eating only fish every meal. To very loosely use Popeye’s words, I knows what I likes and I likes what I knows, I’s Bob the Weird Eater Man.

Below is a brief tour of today’s noon buffet.

You can tell what part of our noon meal Linda likes best.

DSC00832

Linda chaining up for a walk around Honningsvag. There is snow on top but underneath every street and sidewalk it is a sheet of ice.

DSC00833

Selfie of the day.

i promise not to post all the dozen or so icicle photos Linda took, but I know i have to post at least one of them or I’ll be in big trouble. It’s been so long since she’s seen an icicle I was surprised she even remembered what they were. Linda the elephant.

We saw these all over town. You put what you buy in the basket. Place one foot on a runner and push yourself along with the other foot, and if you’re going downhill just put both feet on the runners and coast along.

DSC00838

Young or old, everyone seems to have one. Except we tourists, that is.

DSC00842

I was ordered to walk done a steep and very icy driveway to take this photo. There is no way I would not post it. Smart Bob.

DSC00845

When the German troops left this town in 1944, they burned every building in the entire town except for this church.

DSC00848

Cemetery in winter.

DSC00850

The interior of the church is beautiful in its simplicity.

DSC00853

There are many fishing boats in the marina.

DSC00856

Covering all the bases. An Italian, American and Turkish restaurant.

DSC00857

It took her four tries to hit me a chuck of frozen snow from this distance. Obviously our granddaughters didn’t inherit their softball skills form Linda.

DSC00860

I like it.

Being one third Scandinavian, I wonder if this could be a distant cousin? Linda was pretty positive it was, stating that our stomachs were almost identical.

DSC00864

Car deck on the ship. Not many people going to the top of the world.

DSC00865

It was a long tiring day for the woman who said I bore a strong resemblance to a troll.

DSC00866

Beautiful sunset today.

DSC00886

It was even colder than she looks.

P3080686

Saying goodbye to our wonderful dinner companions for the past week, Shari and Penny. One of the great things about traveling are the really nice people we get to meet.

P3080707

Then there are the northern lights.

P3080710

For as long as Linda stood out there in the cold to take photos of the lights, I have to post something.

DSC00895

Later I went out and captured this. It’s the green deck matting blurred by the rocking of the ship. Bad Bob.
